Canyon de Chelly

My husband and I traveled recently to the high desert and huge mountains of New Mexico and Arizona. The colors alone are absolutely spectacular. It was not unusual for us to be traveling on a road with an elevation of 7,000 feet on the way to go hiking in a canyon or a national forest. Several mountains there are over 10,000 feet tall.

We stood on some of those mighty peaks. It can make a person feel insignificant and small, and I thought: How big must God be?

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Isaiah 40:12

We went to Canyon de Chelly, AZ (pronounced Da Shay), and hiked down to the valley floor. It was in the river there, that my husband's mother (we called her Mamie) baptized my husband, his sister and brother many years ago. Mamie did a lot of unexpected things like that. She was not rich or famous or someone you would necessarily pick out in a crowd. But, she was amazing because God used her to do so many remarkable things in her every day life. She's been gone now for over 27 years, but many who knew her, and some who've just heard about her, are still talking about the way she greatly impacted their lives and truly loved them.

God is big, so big, and we are so small. But He can use us to do great and memorable things...if we love people the way He loves us.
